We want to take a moment to discuss an important issue that could directly impact your travel and immigration plans. Recently, the Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport Police have cracked down on visa and passport fraud, arresting 108 fraudulent agents involved in illegal immigration schemes. This alarming trend highlights the need for vigilance and careful decision-making when dealing with visa and immigration matters. Let's explore what these arrests mean, how these fraudulent schemes operate, and why it's so important to work with trusted professionals. Here at Advocates Immigrations Office (AIO), we're committed to guiding you through this complex landscape safely and securely.
Over the past six months, the IGI Airport Police have made 108 arrests related to visa and passport fraud, a sharp increase from the 51 arrests made during the same period in 2023. These arrests span across Punjab, Gujarat, Haryana, Maharashtra, and West Bengal, indicating that this issue is widespread. This increase in fraudulent activities underscores the importance of being cautious and informed about your immigration options.
Traditionally, enforcement efforts have focused on passengers caught in illegal immigration schemes. However, the IGI Airport Police have wisely shifted their strategy to target the agents behind these operations. This change is crucial because it addresses the root of the problem and protects innocent individuals who might unknowingly become victims. By holding these agents accountable, authorities are disrupting the networks that facilitate illegal immigration.
The IGI Airport Police have uncovered several key methods used by fraudulent agents to facilitate illegal immigration. One common tactic is the creation of fake visas and passports that look authentic, resulting in the arrest of 19 agents this year. Additionally, agents exploit passengers through "donkey routes," sending them to countries with visa-on-arrival policies and organizing illegal border crossings. In 2024, 11 agents involved in these schemes were apprehended.
Another method involves arranging for passengers to travel on someone else's passport, with similar facial features, leading to the arrest of 24 agents this year. Agents also assist individuals in changing their identities after being blacklisted or in creating fake identities for foreign nationals. In 2024, three agents were arrested for identity changes, and 21 for providing fake Indian passports to foreign nationals.
Furthermore, agents tamper with passports and create fake travel histories to deceive authorities, resulting in the arrest of 12 agents for passport tampering and eight for fake travel histories in 2024. Impersonation schemes, where agents arrange for individuals to travel using someone else's identity, have also been uncovered, with seven agents arrested in no departure cases this year.
Public awareness is critical in preventing individuals from falling victim to fraudulent agents who exploit their aspirations for better opportunities abroad. These agents often employ deceptive tactics, leaving unsuspecting passengers in legal jeopardy. Many victims unknowingly become involved in these schemes, paying substantial sums sourced from selling lands, mortgaging homes, or taking high-interest loans.

The Delhi Police have issued around 76 Look Out Circulars (LOCs) for agents who have fled abroad or remain untraceable, ensuring their apprehension upon arrival or departure from India. This marks a twofold increase from the same period in 2023. Additionally, several Proclaimed Offenders (POs) from cases over a decade old have been apprehended, demonstrating the police's commitment to resolving long-standing cases.
The proactive measures and decisive actions taken by the IGI Airport Police against fraudulent agents underscore the importance of preserving national security and maintaining the integrity of immigration processes. By remaining vigilant and seeking assistance from trusted professionals, you can protect yourself from falling victim to these scams.
